Living With Graves Disease & Hyperthyroidism

About Me

My name is Francine Roberts and I live in beautiful Queensland, Australia.

I suffered for years with hyperthyroidism without knowing it.  My thyroid was breaking down and I always thought I was overdoing things and was just tired, and I could eat anything and not put weight on, until one day, I noticed a lump in my throat, it literally came up overnight. I went to the doctor as soon as I could and that started my long, long road to recovery.

When I was first diagnosed, I did what every body else did and went straight to the internet and medical books to find out what Graves Disease is. I found that there was a lot of missing information or I couldn’t find the answers to my questions. Even though I asked my doctor questions, there was always something else I needed to know and sometimes it just helped to talk to others in the same situation.

My new E-book called " Living with Graves Disease" has all the information that I was looking for in the beginning of my illness and more.  I also recorded in diary form, everyday from when I was first diagnosed to now. It's a 30 page diary which is quite compelling and useful for friends and carers. It gives an insight to how a Graves Sufferer is feeling.

I’m not sure why I recorded everything relating to this illness, but I am glad now that I did, as it has helped me, help others, who are being diagnosed today. By telling my story I know it has helped others realise that they are not the only ones dealing with GD especially through the rough patches.

I have included some great forum sites to join and I really recommend them, sometime throughout your illness,  you are going to need someone to talk to.  I know your friends and family try to help and understand, but the people you need are the ones going through the same thing as you are.  No body can understand what you are feeling and how bad you are unless it is someone who has been there or is going through it themselves. When I joined a couple of forums, it was great, I could have a whinge about the doctors, the medications or life in general.  Sometimes I had a cry, quite a few times had a laugh which you need.  The other members were great and even though I have been fine for the last three years, I still visit the sites and add my comments.
